Have you always longed to have a business that you can work from home? Around your family, even around a part time job, something that actually works!
Well this was me, always on the hunt for that elusive career, that perfect home business….
I can tell you I tried a lot, skincare, oils and a few others but although they had great products and fabulous reward schemes for consultants, none were super successful (for me) and often I was putting in more hours than I would a traditional 9-5 business for literally no financial return! I looked and I kept looking …
Then a few years ago I started painting, I had always had a passion for drawing, painting, making things and had been a successful art student in high school and also when I was studying for my teaching degree.
Although it had been a good 25 years since I had painted I eagerly picked up a paint brush and started a hobby just for me, no more home businesses. I was working in early childhood education a few days a week and pursuing my passion at home… and I was content with this.
Well sometimes things happen for a reason and as my passion began to build I soon found I had a house full of paintings. Friends began to comment on how they liked them, and then one day my daughter sent an email to a cafe and asked if they would like to exhibit my paintings… and they said they would love to!
Unknown to me at the time, my painting were causing much conversation amongst the customers and I soon began to sell my pieces. I couldn’t believe it!
I was selling without actually trying to sell, my art work was doing it all for me. Big bold and bright was the theme, inspired by nature was the inspiration!

I then put a painting into a international competition “The Cliftons Art Prize” and I was selected as one of the 10 finalists in Western Australia!
Wow I was really enjoying this and I now I had a real idea of what I needed to do to have success from home. I really wanted to do painting workshops to share this passion and help others release their creative genius, but struggled to find venues that could accommodate 15 artists creating huge painting. I began to rack my brain to come up with a solution as I really wanted to share my creative passion with others.
Then around April last year I started art journalling as one of my sons moved into my art studio, I had to scale down my painting… and I was now enjoying working on a smaller scale.
I was buying products on line for my art journals and eventually just signed up as a Stampin’ Up demonstrator for the discount and the fabulous products… I was totally addicted!
I had never even considered card making as creative pursuit but once I started there was no stopping me! Amazingly so much creativity came from this new endeavour and now I could post out my art work to friends and family all over the world. Plus I was making so many cards in my spare time that I was now selling them at markets and a few local shops!
Guess what happened next… people began to approach me about my card designs, would I teach them?
So it happened I got to run my workshops for adults and children all over Western Australia. In the beginning some workshops were better than others and I slowly began to find a style that worked for me and my students. It takes time and persistence to make anything work smoothly and successfully.
What an absolute joy it is to have a career find you! That is exactly what happened to me, I let my business find me and it fills me with joy every day and I know that my customers and students get the same joy when they join me at a workshop or even on line.
I still have a house filled with paintings, and I paint often but I also now fully fund my passions through my business.
I wake up excited to run a workshop, to create a new card to share something online, or to hold a class. To learn and try new techniques is so satisfying for the creative, and now I do this every day.
